Davide Sorrenti

Sorrenti

I wanted to write a post on one of my favourite photographers: Davide Sorrenti. After watching his documentary, 'See Know Evil', I found out a lot about his short yet extremely moving and incredible life which made me fall in love even more with his work.

Even though I don't have much experience with photography, his work will be an important influence on my music video. I find his style so inspiring and unique and I'm amazed at how he could make such simple things (such as a kiss or a pose) look so beautiful and artistic.

Jamie King

Sorrenti was an Italian fashion photographer during the era when the 'heroin chic' look was at its peak including models such as Kate Moss and his girlfriend, Jaime King. The 'heroin chic' was extremely controversial due to its glamourization of really skinny models and, essentially, addiction.

I really like this image because of the green/ blue lighting. There is a lot of interesting detail in this photograph such as the neon lights, a popcorn machine, King's jewellery and her pose/ stare. I also love how the background is blurry and King is the only thing in focus; I think this makes the photograph so much more impactful and striking.

He captured models and friends in a very natural way yet his attention to detail

was very profound.

Davide Sorrenti and Family

“Davide’s photography was a reflection of the youth culture of the 90s; engulfed in rap music, skateboarding and ‘gangsta’ culture,” - Francesca Sorrenti

He died aged 20 due to a kidney failure and having suffered from thalassemia. The success he made in the few years of photography was immense compared to what other photographers would recieve in a life time. It really goes to show the incredible talent and great personality that he had.

In conclusion, apart from the style of his photographs which really catches my eye, some of his earlier photos capture the exact 90s rap scene that I want to take inspiration from for my video. Therefore, his work really influenced me when thinking about how I will film my video and what appearance it could have.
